But if you are feeling the burn this afternoon, here are a few piece of advice from the NHS.

How to ease sunburn yourself

Get out of the sun as soon as possible

Cool your skin with a cool shower, bath or damp towel

Apply aftersun cream or spray, like aloe vera

Drink plenty of water to cool down and prevent dehydration

Take painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen for any pain

Cover sunburnt skin from direct sunlight until skin has fully healed

But don't

Don't use petroleum jelly on sunburnt skin

Don't put ice or ice packs on sunburnt skin

If your skin begins to blister, don't pop them

Try not to scratch or try to remove peeling skin

Don't wear tight-fitting clothes - keep clothes loose

If you still need help, you can always ask your pharmacist about the best sunburn treatments.

Call NHS 111 if your skin becomes blistered or swollen. If your temperature is very high or you feel shivery and hot. If you feel tired, dizzy and sick, have a headache or muscle cramps.

If your baby or young child has sunburn, call NHS 111 for immediate advice.

The NHS says that severe sunburn can lead to heat exhaustion nad heat stroke, which can be very serious.
