Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett said government guidelines were confusing and people were losing faith as a result.

But he reminded the public to follow the advice to avoid getting fined.

He said: "The problem which the country has had in dealing with the virus is that the government's rules have been confusing, contradictory and often misleading.

"To some extent people are losing confidence in the rules as a consequence.

"But the truth is that this virus is deadly and easily spread from one person to another.

"My advice is to follow the so-called rule of six which also has legal force so that you can be fined if you don't do so."
