Smoking in Wakefield remains higher than national average

Smokers across Wakefield district will be encouraged to give up the habit as the number of addicts remains higher than the national average.

Almost a fifth of the adult population of the area, 19.3 per cent regularly light up, compared to national average of 14.4 per cent.

With national No Smoking Day yesterday, Wakefield Council wants smokers to use the available services available.

Coun Faith Heptinstall, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for health, said: “The health benefits are huge and that’s why we want to do everything we can to help residents quit.”
