A new information board designed and put up at Horbury Cemetery gives a brief history of the overall site, the locations of some of the more notable people buried there and an overview of the 16 Commonwealth war graves from both World Wars.

The project was a joint effort between local historian Helen Bickerdike, the Friends of Horbury Cemetery, and Horbury and South Ossett councillor Darren Byford.

Coun Byford said: "Working as a group to produce this new heritage board has been a real eye- opener, Horbury Cemetery contains some of the great names of Horbury including musicians, a confectioner, businessmen, mill owners and football makers.

"This board gives us the opportunity to share with visitors some history behind the names who put Horbury on the map."
