These are 10 of the sweetest and most unusual pets and animals spotted in Wakefield and the Five Towns over the years. Can you think of a stranger entry? Let us know on Twitter and Facebook.
1. Thatcher goes a peck too far
In October 2004, staff and customers at the Kings Arms pub at Heath Common were treated to a string of visits from a new regular - Thatcher the magpie. The cheeky bird enjoyed sitting on customers' arms and sipping their drinks, but often got a bit carried away, and was reported to have pinched locals' keys and chase visiting children. He was eventually banished from the pub, but remains something of a local legend.
2. The wonkey donkeys
Jenny Howarth opened the Wonkey Donkey Visitor Centre in Knottingley after her donkey Buttons helped her recover from a rare illness as a child. In 2017, Jenny suffered severe psychological trauma after being present at the Manchester Arena Bombing. She credits her donkeys with helping her to process the experience, and hopes she will be able to offer her donkeys as much solace as they have given her through the years.
3. Perfect pongo
When was the last time you came across a skunk on your morning walk? Pongo, an emotional support animal, is a domesticated striped skunk, who lives in Wakefield. Socialised by humans since he was just three years old, the animal is litter trained but, despite popular misconceptions, has never sprayed anyone!
4. Not ferret all
Tetley, the drunken albino ferret, was rescued from the recycled bottle barrel in a Castleford pub cellar in a drunken state in March 2003. He was taken into the care of the RSPCA in Leeds - but not before stopping for another sip of his favourite drink.
