The initiative will see children and patients on these wards wake up to an Easter egg on Easter Sunday.

Pinderfields Neonatal Ward in particular is very close to Donna’s heart as they helped care for her son, who was born weighing just 2lb 6oz in 2019.

Donna said: “My son was born a premature baby and was cared for in the neonatal ward for three months - they did so much for him, me and my husband.

“The Easter egg appeal is just my way of saying thank you to them with everything they do.

“We were on the ward over Easter and they put eggs at the side of the babies incubators and cots and I thought that was a lovely idea.

“The donation of eggs to them is very personal to me and my family.”

Donations of Easter eggs can be left at Wickes Wakefield branch in a donation box near the tills.

Donna has arranged with the Hospital Charity to take all Easter eggs donated in store on March 29, in time for Easter, allowing time for the eggs to be quarantined and left beside patients' beds.

Donna said: “A lot of staff at Wickes and their families have donated so the appeal is going really well.

“We have around 112 eggs at the moment, but we’d love to get as many as possible.

“Whatever we get will be fantastic for the hospital and we’re really grateful from the support we’ve received so far.

“It’s my way of giving something back by showing appreciation for nurses, doctors and for the children who are in hospital over Easter.”
