The Rock Inn on Rock Hill, Glasshoughton closed in early 2021 and, after 14 months of hard work new owner Harry Ahmed has relaunched it as Rockello.

He said: “Our goal was to create a cafe restaurant to give the people of Castleford a home away from home; a nice friendly environment where they can enjoy themselves without any alcohol and focus solely on food.”

Rockello is open from 8am-2pm and the longer term plan is to also open it as a restaurant from 5-10pm.

The clean lines of the interior

All the food is created in house with ingredients locally sourced - even the bread, sausages and Hollandaise sauce are made from scratch by the talented chef.

Harry said: “The coffee is roasted locally to our own signature blend.”

Popular dishes include the full English breakfast, French toast with maple cured turkey bacon; American-style pancakes drizzled with homemade mixed berry compote, Madagascan vanilla ice cream and almond flakes; and acai bowls - a healthy mixture of fruit, nuts and yoghurt.

“The reaction after our first week of opening was great - lots of five-star reviews and comments.

Smart and sophisticated

One reviewer said: “Lovely new local cafe. Stunning renovation of the old Rock Inn. Beautiful decor and atmosphere, perfect coffee, Really good service and friendly welcoming place.”

Harry and his family have been at the forefront of the food industry in Castleford for 35 years, opening Eastern Spice, one of the first takeaways in the town, followed by Harry’s Burger and Shakes five years ago.

He said: “I’m a massive foodie, my aim is to give back something to Castleford for all the support I have had over the years.”
