Conor Barron, Ainsley Harriott, Ben Atkinson and Cameron Atkinson at the British Takeaway Awards.

The video is posted on Rate My Takeaway’s Facebook page and the host offered a massive endorsement on the quality of food in the city.

He said: “If you want a burger and wedges that’s something different, made with love and kindness, get yourself down to Bear Kitchen.

“They are getting a 10 in my book. They are putting Wakefield on the map. Wakey is up there now.”

He said Rate My Plate would have to do a bit of travelling to find a city with places as good as what Wakefield has to offer right now.

He said: “We need to get around the country and find some place to rival these because they know what they’re doing in this city.

“They know what they want in their hearts and they know what they want in their bellies.”

The social media platform’s first trip to the city was to review Abdul’s curry house off Dewsbury Road.

The verdict was another perfect 10.

And the Express is no stranger to the culinary delights of Wakefield.

Before lockdown we made our way around the city and reviewed cafes, bars and restaurants to sample some of the best the city has to offer and tell the stories of the people behind the scenes.

We are going to republish those Tastes and Tipples stories on our websites and social media to celebrate business in the city and as a reminder of the top quality food right on our doorstep.
