5. Ackworth & Darrington
On the far side of the Wakefield district are the villages of Ackworth & Darrington, which are located around three miles south of Pontefract. With history stretching back hundreds of years, the two villages boast well-known pubs, gold clubs and hotels, as well as local schools and easy access to the A1. The area now known as Kettlethorpe & Chapelthorpe is a relatively new area of the district. Houses in these areas were largely built in the years following the Second World War, and have since expended to become self-sufficient neighbourhoods. Residents have access to a local GP surgery, multiple supermarkets and are within walking distance of Newmillerdam and Pugneys Country Parks.
