18-year-old seriously hurt in Wakefield car smash

AN 18-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic accident in Wakefield.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the serious incident, which happened at around 3.35am today (Wednesday) on Link Road in Newton Bar.

A silver Peugeot 206 was travelling along Link Road in the direction of Wakefield town centre when it collided with the central reservation and a lamppost.

A passenger in the vehicle - an 18 year old man from Wakefield was seriously injured and taken to Leeds General Infirmary. The road was closed between the Snow Hill View junction and the Bradford Road junction, but has now re-opened.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the car before the collision or witnessed the actual collision. Anyone with any information should contact PC 4984 Brett at Roads Policing via 101.
