Taxis can be flagged down to take passengers into the city centre for just £1.
The Wakefield Hackney Carriage Association has introduced the Pound Back into Town scheme, which could help boost trade for drivers.
Under the scheme, hackney carriage drivers can be flagged down as they travel back to the taxi ranks in the city centre.
The passengers would then be charged £1 per person for the journey. All other journeys would be charged as normal.
Hackney carriages participating in the scheme will display the Pound Back into Town logo in their vehicles.
Taxi driver Asif Khan said: “The scheme will bring more people into the city centre.”
