Amateur operatic group picks up two awards for first show at city venue

Kippax Amateur Operatic Society has picked up two awards after staging a production at the Theatre Royal Wakefield for the first time.

The society performed The Producers earlier this year - and the show was such a success that it picked up joint best production at the Wharfedale Festival of Theatre awards.

Producer Mark Waters was also named best producer.

The show was the first time KAOS had staged its annual musical at the city centre theatre.

The performance was led by Mr Waters, as well as musical director Marie Collins and choreographer Lorraine Harrison.

Mr Waters is well known in theatrical circles for his production skills, as well as for his performance abilities.

He will next appear on stage when he performs as the dame in this year’s pantomime Aladdin, which will be on at the Phoenix Theatre, Airedale, in January.

Tickets cost £12.50 for adults and £10.50 for children. They can be booked online at www.kaos1.co.uk or from the booking officer on 0113 2869653.
