A MUM was quoted “only £10,185 a month” to renew her car insurance.
Sian Jones, 28, recieved a letter saying her annual payment would be £100,034 from Vauxhall Insurance, after the firm insured her for under £700 last year.
It added the total insurance for the year would have come to £112,038.08 if she had signed up to 11 monthly installments for her 2007 Vauxhall Vectra.
But Miss Jones, of Laithes Close, Wakefield, said she was told the quote was the cheapest available when she rang Vauxhall Insurance after being shocked by the letter.
She said: “At first I thought it was a printing error but I rang them up and they just said it was the best quote they could give.
“I just laughed in the end. How can they honestly expect me to pay £10,000-a-month?”
Miss Jones said the company even sent her a reminder letter quoting the same amount after she did not take up the offer.
She said: “They have done all the calculations for APR and legal protection so it’s not a mistake.
“If they don’t want to insure me they should just say.”
Miss Jones said she had since signed up for insurance costing £390 from another company.
Vauxhall Insurance said the amount had been quoted because of a one-off system error and not because of increased insurance premiums.
A spokesman said: “We apologise to Miss Jones for any inconvenience caused.”
