Appeal: Man who fled country before Batley rape trial may be back in West Yorkshire

Police believe a man who fled the country before he could stand trial over rape allegations in Batley may be back in West Yorkshire.

Mahboob Bostan, 45, was charged with three rape offences by police in 1998 and after being bailed by Magistrates’ he fled the country before he could face trial.

But now detectives at West Yorkshire’s Homicide and Major Enquiries Team believe he is back in West Yorkshire and are asking the public to report any sightings of him.

The offences allegedly took place in Batley in January 1997 and February 1998, and Bradford in July 1997.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley of the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team, said: “We have received information Bostan may be back in West Yorkshire and have been making enquires to locate him.

“Clearly these are extremely serious crimes and it is important Bostan is found and put before the courts to be tried by a jury.

“Anyone who sees Bostan or has information should contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101, extension 26807 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
