Are former Top Gear stars coming to West Yorkshire?

Jeremy Clarkson's new motoring programme could be on its way to West Yorkshire.

The presenter tweeted that the recent namely Grand Tour will stop off at 12 different locations during its run, with the USA and Heckmondwike on the shortlist.

After putting the question to Twitter users, he said: “The leading contenders for locations so far are Heckmondwike and Texas.”

While their BBC show was filmed in an old aircraft hanger at Dunsfold Aerodrome, the new programme’s studio is to be a gigantic tent which will be set up in a different location every week.

As well as São Paulo and Johannesburg, there were specific requests for Halifax and Huddersfield, while scores of readers backed the possibility of the programme coming to North Kirklees.

Jordan Kirby said; “Who could turn down the glittering lights of Heckmondwike?!”

Danny White said: “I went to school in Heckmondwike. All the charm of Texas, but a bit more danger.”

Rashid Mahmood said: “We got a nice big car park in McDonald’s too.”

Saqib Hashmi said: “Heckmondwike! But be warned – town is full of Toyotas and taxi drivers.”

Wij Hussain said: “Clock in Heckmondwike erected in 1863 to commemorate a royal wedding. We will build you a tower!”

Emily Narey said: “How do you know Heckmondwike even exists? Most people can’t even pronounce it!”

But the suggestion was not without friendly competition other boroughs of North Kirklees.

Fun Rover said: “Don’t go to Heckmondwike, go to Liversedge. It’s upmarket.”

Clarkson will return with former Top Gear presenters James May and Richard Hammond in autumn.
