Armed Forces Day event to return to Nostell Priory

People can show their support for the armed forces at a special event at Nostell Priory next month.

The event, organised by Wakefield Council, will take place on Saturday, June 20.

It will run from 10am until 5pm and attractions will include a Spitfire flyover, a parachute display, performances from military bands and a police dog show.

Coun Sandra Pickin, Wakefield Council’s armed forces champion, said: “I’d encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the day which recognises the contribution of those who have fought to protect our country and those still serving.

“There are lot of attractions, which makes it a great day out for all the family.”

Children can also enter a drawing competition to have their design printed on next year’s poster.

Youngsters aged four to 16 can win a £50 Amazon voucher by drawing a design based on the forces.

Images must be drawn within a square box 10cm x 10cm. Entries need to include the name, age and address of the child and a parent, and a contact phone number.

Entries are to be sent to: Armed Forces Day competition, Room 203, County Hall, Freepost RTKZ-KJRX-ETXE, Wakefield, WF1 2QW and need to be received by 18 May 2015.

Winning entries will be notified by Tuesday, June 2 and winners will be invited to the event on Saturday 20 June 2015 to claim their prizes.
