Armed robbery at Pontefract jewellers - getaway car burnt out

A gang of armed robbers - one brandishing a firearm - raided a jewellers in Pontefract town centre this afternoon (Thursday).

Police said a group of four men entered the Kingston Jewellers on Ropergate at around 2.35pm.

They threatened staff in the store before making off with a large quantity of jewellery in a burgundy coloured Rover 75 estate car which was later found burnt out on Wakefield Road at the junction with Jubilee Way.

No-one was injured in the incident.

DI Steve Greenbank, of Wakefield CID, said: “We are actively searching for these men and advise anyone who may see them not to approach them.

“We are also looking for a silver Vauxhall Astra estate in connection with the robbery.

“Staff at the jewellers were shaken by what happened but thankfully no-one was injured.”
