The annual event took place on Thursday 10 May in London, with more than 500 retail property marketing professionals gathering to recognise effective marketing within the UK shopping centre sector.

The Cuppa Club event, which takes place on the first Thursday of every month, provides a welcoming place for guests to socialise and meet new people, whilst enjoying activities like live music and dance workshops. It was commended by the judges for tackling a national issue in a simple way, which has proved extremely popular at a local level.

Centre director Lee Appleton said: “We are thrilled that a medium-sized centre like The Ridings has scooped such a prestigious accolade and we’re really proud of the work we do to support our older shoppers and help reduce loneliness.”

Paula Bee, CEO of AgeUK Wakefield District said: “The Cuppa Club works at every level and especially as a highly visible reminder to everyone that companionship is the key to tackling isolation and loneliness and this can be free and easy and enjoyable.”

Situated over three levels, The Ridings offers 345,000 sq ft of retail space in the heart of Wakefield city centre and attracts around 12 million shoppers each year.

It is home to a 250 cover food and drink space and more than 70 retailers.
