Motorists face delays after a road was closed because of flooding.

Barnsdale Road in Allerton Bywater is closed in both directions between Station Road junction and William Street junction.

Torrential rainfall caused the River Aire to burst its bank.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Water levels are falling in Alllerton Ings, but remain high. Barnsdale Road is impassable; please avoid driving or walking through flood water.

“We have opened Fairburn Sluice to start emptying the Ings. The weather forecast for Wednesday is for further, potentially heavy, rainfall.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and flood alerts and warnings will be reissued as required.”
