A former Kettlethorpe High School student will take her seat beside Harry Gration on the BBC Look North sofa next month.

Amy Garcia, who was born and bred in the city, will replace former co-anchor Christa Ackroyd on the regional news show.

Audiences may recognise Ms Garcia who worked for Look North four years ago before moving to BBC South Today.

Ms Garcia, 32, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the north and can’t wait to share the sofa with the Yorkshire legend that is Harry Gration.”

After Kettlethorpe High School, she went to Wakefield College and then at 19 moved to London to work in children’s television working for CBBC, CITV and the Disney channel.

She also worked for Sky before going to study TV journalism at the age of 27.

Helen Thomas, the head of BBC Yorkshire, said: “Amy will be a huge asset to our team of first class journalists on Look North. Her natural warmth and empathy, combined with her track record in TV news, really shone out for us.

“We’re looking forward to Amy working with Harry, Paul and the rest of the team, and I’m very proud to have an all Yorkshire presenter line-up.”

Former Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd left the show in February after 12 years amid controversy over her tax arrangements.

Ms Garcia will start on November 25.
