A blooming brilliant spring show

Villagers entered their best daffodils, tulips, pots of alpines and indoor plants, baking, jams and marmalade, wine and flower arrangements into the competition.

Children also created cards, which were put on display at the event, for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The winners included:

Carr Gate Garden Centre Trophy, Sue Vinden (best entry daffodils).

Daffodil Society Bronze medal, Wendy Akers (best daffodil bloom).

Wrenthorpe Environmental Society Trophy, M. Conniss (best entry home produce).

Wrenthorpe Gardening Club Trophy, Jo Robinson (best entry members section).

Secretary’s Trophy, E and J Kendall (best entry miscellaneous section).

Malt Shovel Cup, J. Linney (best novice entry).

Flower Arrangement Trophy, Lynn Webster.

Dinsley Trophy, Janet Miller (sponsored Class).

The show took place at Wrenthorpe Village Hall on Sunday, April 3. Visitors also enjoyed refreshments, including homemade cakes and treats, and were able to pick up a free tree from the plant stall, courtesy of WRENS.

After the judging, organiser Peter Trickett introduced Chris Smith, deputy head of Jerry Clay Lane Academy, to the visitors. She commended the way people had worked hard at putting on the event and said they had produced something worth attending.
