Bogus official stole from Wakefield pensioner

The man claimed to be working for a security company and was allowed into homes on Peacock Close, Wakefield, and Whitehall Court, Horbury,

He told residents the firm was linked to a housing association and spoke to them about window locks and safes.

A 68-year-old man handed over his bank details to the suspect and later realised £200 had been stolen from his account.

Police have now released a CCTV image and an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with both incidents, which happened between 1pm and 2.30pm on Thursday, March 5.

The suspect is described as white, possibly in his fifties, about 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He had brown hair and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable Gary Wetherill, from Wakefield District CID, said: “This incident has understandably left the victims’ feeling upset and distressed and I would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man from the e-fit or the CCTV image.

“It is possible he may have called at other houses in the area, and I would like anyone who has been approached by a man under similar circumstances to get in touch.”
