Brothers gear up for 330 mile cycle ride to Paris for children's charity

Richard Elphick and his brother Paul are cycling from London to Paris to raise money for the charity that has supported Paul's son who has a brain tumour.

Brave Jake Elphick discovered he was suffering from the tumour aged 10 in 2011.

He had surgery to remove the tumour and endured intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy during his recovery.

But after a routine MRI scan last year, doctors discovered the cancer had returned and had also spread to Jake’s spine.

His family were told the tumours were inoperable but Jake has continued to have chemotherapy and has taken part in drug trials.

Dad Paul, of Pontefract, said: “Jake is an inspiration to everyone that knows and meets him. He takes every setback in his stride, treating them as another thing to fight against.”

Paul and his brother Richard are in training to ride from London to Paris over four days to raise money for children’s charity CLIC Sargent.

Richard, from Nostell, said: “Throughout the highs and lows of the last four years, CLIC Sargent has supported Jake in so many ways.

“We want to give something back to enable the charity to continue its support to other unfortunate families.”
