Burglars in £32k roof top raid at school

The burglars forced their way into Stockingate Mill Primary School in South Kirkby sometime between 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 15 and 6.15am on Wednesday March 16.

And they lugged out eight 70” interactive LCD screens, each worth £4,000.

The equipment had been delivered to the school just days before.

A spokeswoman at the school said: “The burglary was discovered by the caretaker on Wednesday morning.

“A window had been taken out high up at the top of the school hall.

“There was some tyres that the children play on in the playground.

“They had piled them up outside the building and it looks like they used them to climb onto the roof and access the window.

“They must have got down the inside using gym apparatus.

“The interactive whiteboard screens had only just been delivered on the Friday and they were all boxed up.

“They were being stored in the hall until our computer team could put them up over Easter.

“It was very upsetting to know somebody had been in.

“Everyone was upset and disappointed to think that someone would take from us.”

Inspector Geoff Carter of the South East neighbourhood police team said the burglary would have a “significant impact” on the school.

He said: “These criminals targeted items that were to be used for education.

“It was quite a significant burglary and I would urge anyone who has information to help us find out who is responsible to get in touch.”
