Burglary caused elderly victim distress in the last days of his life

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at the home of an elderly man in Knottingley who has since passed away.

The offence happened between 11am on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, and 9.25am on Monday, December 28, at an adress in Coronation Bungalows while the 81-year-old male victim was away in respite care.

Entry was forced through a window and cash and medication stolen.

Detective Inspector Dave Rogerson, of Wakefield District CID, said: “Sadly the victim has passed away in the time since this offence happened. We are appealing for members of the public to provide any information they have to ensure the person or people responsible are identified and brought to justice for this offence which caused the victim distress in the last days of his life.

“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious which could be connected to this offence or with information about anyone involved is asked to call Wakefield District CID via 101.”
