Four retailers have signed deals to move into the Ridings Shopping Centre.

Fashion store Indi Menswear, vintage clothing firm WH Retail, discount outlet Home and More and C and Z, which stocks handmade bags and themed gifts, are all moving into the centre.

But the future of WH Smith in the centre remains uncertain after cut-price clothing retailer Primark signed a deal to move into the newsagent and bookstore’s neighbouring unit at the Ridings.

WH Smith is expected to vacate its unit at the centre on July 1.

The company is understood to be in talks to move elsewhere in the city centre.

Barbara Winston, manager of the Ridings, said tenancy agreements had been secured with the four new occupants.

She said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Indi Menswear, WH Retail, Home and More and C and Z to the centre.

“We attribute our success in attracting unique independents to the flexible options that we offer to retailers.

“As well as hosting market days, we also offer short-term leases, assist new retailers with pop-up boutiques and have units that operate as cooperatives and collectives.

“Alongside all of this, we also work closely with all of our retailers to provide support and guidance where possible.”

Primark will increase the size of its store by 40 per cent when it moves into WH Smith’s current unit and a unit previously occupied by book retailer Waterstones.

Waterstones has moved just outside the Ridings to the former HMV shop on Kirkgate.
