Can Chris take the heat of the MasterChef kitchen and the pressure of judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace?

Chris Hale, 29, will appear on the BBC One show next week, which is judged by chef John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

Father-of-two Chris, a former Kettlethorpe High School pupil, is currently featured in the television trailer for the amateur cooking contest.

Across 25 episodes spread over seven weeks, the contestants will face culinary challenges and expert critique from Torode and Wallace as they search for the shows’ 12th champion.

Out of the hundreds that auditioned, Chris is one of 40 amateur cooks that got through to battle it out in the kitchen, producing some of the most inspiring food seen on TV.

Mr Hale discovered his love of food whilst at university studying Sports Sciences.

His love of cooking comes from his mother, who runs her own catering and baking company HomeFoods from the family home in Sandal.

Mr Hale is himself an entrepreneur and runs his own altitude training company called Acclimatise Me.

Chris hopes to impress the professionals in the kitchen.

His fiancée Sophie Mei Lan Slack said: “Since I’ve known him he has always loved cooking.

“When we started dating we’d go to the supermarket and buy random ingredients to challenge him to make a meal out of them.

“He is completely self-taught but was brought up surrounded by baking.”

She said that Mr Hale regularly goes to Leeds and Wakefield markets to buy fresh ingredients as well as using local greengrocers.

She said: “He is always challenging himself in the kitchen and he’s happiest when he’s cooking, which is great for our daughters.

“Although I can’t try everything as I’m a vegan so he’s often a very frustrated chef!

“We always used to watch MasterChef together. And I’d sit there going ‘you could do that.’

“So I kept sending him the link to apply because he is so talented and creative when it comes to cooking.

“He also talks a lot and I’ve always said he should be on TV.

“I’d love him to be Jamie Oliver’s northern replacement.

“We are all so excited and proud that he made it through the auditions and onto the show. We’ve all been so giddy seeing him on the TV trail.

“And we’ll be watching with bated breath on Wednesday.”
