The hooker has given backing to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s Cherished Campaign, which encourages others to look out for the older people in their lives as the season changes.

Mr Milner, 22, is very close to his 81-year-old grandmother Mary Milner and likes nothing better than a natter with her over a cuppa.

He said: “My nan and I are the best of friends and see each other regularly. She has always supported me in my sporting ambitions and now it’s time for me to give a little bit back.

“It’s not rocket science to watch out for older relatives who may just need a helping hand to test their smoke alarms.

“You can also do your bit by looking out for simple hazards in the home and preventing accidents before they happen.

“Younger people can feel disconnected from the older people around them, with so much to focus on in our busy lives, but we should make an extra effort to cherish older generations.”

The star’s support has drawn praise from a fire safety chief.

Chris Kirby, temporary area manager for fire safety said: “We are really pleased to have people like Adam supporting the Cherished Campaign as he is a great role-model for others.

“Our mission is to prevent vulnerable older people from going under the radar this winter and we urge younger, possibly more mobile individuals, to do their bit to help make sure that does not happen.

“You can get in touch with the Fire Service if you know someone who would benefit from a home fire safety check, as long as you have the homeowner’s permission.”
