Sisters Rachael Parkin and Susie Webb – and their friend Ellie Wood – have held a series of fundraising events in an effort to raise £3,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The trio – who called themselves the Yorkshire Girls – have so far raised more than £1,000 and hope their final event, a charity ball, will help them hit their target.

Mrs Parkin said: “It has been a really special year.

“The response and support we’ve had from people has been overwhelming.”

The charity ball, hosted by DJ Jasmin Dean, will be held at Featherstone Rovers’ Big Fellas Stadium from 7pm.

There will be a charity auction, live music from the band Rough Diamond and a magic show by Craig Roe.

Mrs Parkin, 33, added: “It should be a really good night and hopefully it will be a fitting end to what has been a fantastic year.”

The trio first decided to embark on the fundraising challenge last December and their first event was a baking competition in Wakefield in March.

The ball will also include an auction of merchandise from TV’s Countdown mathematician Rachel Riley and basketball stunt team the Harlem Globetrotters.

Limited tickets are still available at a cost of £25 each, including a three-course meal.
