Church leaders mark the start of Lent with prayers for the needy
Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent, and the gathering is part of a campaign against food poverty.
It coincides with a national End Hunger Day of fasting, which the Bishop of Wakefield, Rt Rev Stephen Platten is also taking part in.

Hide AdThe church leaders will also be calling for food donations. Services will be held at 10.30am, 1pm or 7.30pm.
The Rev Canon Andi Hofbauer, of Wakefield Cathedral said: “Let us not just think about those who go hungry this Lent, but do something about it. Make a pledge and bring food stuff to the cathedral to donate to some of our more needy families through our food banks in the city.”
