The 70-year-old former frontman of Gerry and the Pacemakers, famed for hits including Ferry Cross the Mersey and You’ll Never Walk Alone, will headline a weekend of activities at St Michael’s Church.

Gerry will perform some early skiffle numbers, Beatles songs and his own hits at the church, on Saturday, June 22.

And the previous day there will be a musical workshop for children followed by folk singers Lorelei Loveridge, from the USA, and Zoe Mulford, from Manchester.

Event organiser Guy Loveridge, of Emley, has been a friend of Gerry’s since they met at a motorsport event in China ten years ago.

Mr Loveridge said: “When I heard the church needed help I thought what better way to raise money than to try to get him to come and play in Emley.

“After talking to some friends we decided it would be good to turn it into a small music festival.”
