Wakefield ranked higher than both York and Leeds in the survey by Right Move.

The survey asked people questions such as how proud they are of their home, whether they are satisfied with how it is decorated, how safe they feel in their community, whether they have enough living space, how friendly the neighbours are and whether they worry about the value of their property.

Andy Wallhead, Corporate Director Regeneration and Economic Growth for Wakefield Council, said: “We are delighted to hear that Wakefield has been recognised in a national survey as one of top places to live in Yorkshire.

“Despite tough times we have brought flagship development to the district such as the Trinity Walk shopping centre, The award-winning Hepworth Wakefield – and the new gateway to the city, Westgate Station, by working with our partners.

“We continue to invest in major projects as further improvements are being made to what is already one of the most upcoming and exciting places to live and work. And we hope that this survey by Right Move will encourage more people to come and see what we have to offer.”

Harrogate is the happiest place in Britain to live and Halifax ranked as the second best place in Yorkshire to live.
