Come Together for free Beatles gig this summer

rganisers have secured The Magic of The Beatles, a critically-acclaimed tribute act to the world’s greatest ever rock ‘n’ roll band.

The popular music festival returns this year after a year’s hiatus with promises that over 90 per cent of performances will be free to the public.

And festival founder Dean Freeman says signing up the much-sought-after Beatles act to perform is somewhat of a coup.

He said: “Their shows usually cost about £15 to £20 for a ticket, but in partnership with Wakefield BID we are presenting this show completely for free.

“The show traces The Beatles through their entire career, from the early Beatlemania pop hits, through to their Sgt Pepper heydey.

“It is an intentionally family-friendly show that we hope will attract both Long Division attendees and brand new attendees to the festival.”

The band will take to the precinct stage outside Wakefield Cathedral on the last day of the festival, Sunday, June 3.

The three-day festival starts on Friday, June 1 and there will be over 100 performers across 20 stages in the city on the Saturday alone.

Along with music, there will be art exhibitions and workshops for children.

Dean added: “We love the idea of young people seeing their first band at Long Division but we also appreciate watching a band is not every five year-olds’ idea of fun.

“Instead, we want to see them create, we want to find the artists of the future.

“Thanks to Wakefield BID the festival is truly able to take over the city centre this year.

“But we’re keen to do more than put bands in venues and pubs - we want to see the people of Wakefield creating and we want to create a sense of community.”
