Community - Alverthorpe & Wrenthorpe

GARDENING CLUB: The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 3 at 7.30pm in Wrenthorpe Village Hall. The guest speaker will be Tony Rymer, on 80 Great Plants for Small Gardens. The monthly competition will be 1. One fuchsia; 2. A vase or bowl of cut flowers. Visitors are welcome, annual membership is £5.

WRENTHORPE METHODIST CHURCH:  On  Sunday at 10am when the service will be led by the Rev Naomi Kaiga.

WRENTHORPE MISSION: Communion service on Sunda,y July 30 at 10.30am and monthly café style informal guest service is at 6.30pm. Tuesday, August 2 is Bible study at 7.30pm and prayer and praise is at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 4.

ST ANNE’S: A morning service takes place at 10am on Sunday, led by the Rev Ruth Harris. St Anne’s will be leading the service in the hospice chapel at 2.30pm. On Wednesday communion is at 9.15am followed by refreshments, with the church remaining open until noon.

SUMMER FAIR: A summer fair takes place at West Riding Nursing Home, Outwood on September 2 from 2pm. Donations of books and other items are needed, and anyone who wants to hold a craft stall, with a donation should contact 01924 826806.

CALLING ALL DANCERS: The dancing section of the Wakefield Caledonian Society is holding free taster sessions for anyone who would like to have a go at Scottish country dancing at Kirkhamgate Village Hall, on Wednesday nights from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.  The free taster sessions will take place on Wednesday, September 7 and 14. SUMMER AT DENHALE ARC: Denhale ARC is to host three weeks of children’s sport activities during the school summer holidays, targeted at both boys and girls aged eight to 14. Starting from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 26 (week days only), from 1pm to 3pm, children can enjoy access to three of the centres popular multi-sport programmes. Cost is £2.50 per session or £10 for the full week when paying in advance. Places are limited, so to book a place or for further information please contact the centre on 01924 384078.

LINDALE METHODISTS: The morning service at Lindale Methodist Church on Sunday will be led by David Dixon. The Rev Tony Jones will lead the evening communion service.

ST PAUL’S: This Sunday will be a joint service in St Paul’s when the congregation of St Paul’s will be welcoming the congregation who usually worship at St Michael’s in a special service at 10am, which will be led by Rev Gerry Sykes and Rev Meuryn Walker, one of whom will be preaching.
