PACT: A Police and Communities Together meeting takes place on Tuesday, August 9 at the Parish Council Centre at 7pm.

NOSTELL: Tomorrow Nostell MWFC begins its new season with a home game against Liversedge, meet at 1.30pm for a 3pm kick off. On Monday, August 8 the reserves are at home to Ossett Albion Reserves kick off is at 7.30pm. On Tuesday, August 9 the first team will be involved in the first round of the President’s Cup when it plays at home to Pontefract Collieries. Meet at 6pm for a 7.45pm kick off.

CHARITY NIGHT: The charity night last Saturday at the community centre raised £4,148 for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Boots has arranged to double this amount. The event was in memory of Dave Sharratt, and Dave’s family wish to thank everyone for their donations and support.

NO SURGERIES: There will be no council surgeries or parish council meetings in Crofton during August.

MAKE A WISH: Tomorrow at The Slipper pub there will be activities from noon and into the evening, raising money for the Make A Wish Foundation. Various stalls, barbecue, tombola, auctions, karaoke, sponsored waxing with members of Crofton Cougars RLFC and much more.

LEE RICHARDS: Continuing his 2011 Challenge for Wakefield Hospice Lee Richards last weekend took part in the York 10k. This weekend he begins his Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride. Sponsor him at

COMPUTERS: Still a space on the Wednesday morning free UK online computer class at the library, from 9am to 11am and 11.30am to 1.30pm. Ring the library for more information on 01924 303960.

LIBRARY: There will be stories and rhymes with Jill Fisher on Wednesday at the library for under fives from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

ANGLING: The next match for members of Nortel Miners’ Welfare Angling Club will be on Sunday, August 7 at Holme Marsh on the Trent.

GEODAY: Members of Yorkshire Geology Trust will be on hand tomorrow from 11am to 4pm at Waterton Discovery Centre to talk about and identify rocks, fossils and minerals from our area. Take along your own specimens for identification. No need to book.

MAJORETTES: Crofton Starlightning Majorettes will be giving displays at the charity event tomorrow at The Slipper pub in New Crofton.

BAND: Crofton Silver Band play a concert at the bandstand in Filey on Sunday afternoon.

NEW VICAR: Jennifer Honeyman, at present serving as a curate in St Barnabas’ Church in Crosland Moor, Huddersfield, will serve as priest-in-charge of All Saints’ Church in Crofton in October.

FOR DISABLED: Wakefield Able2 will soon be providing sports and recreational facilities for the disabled and mentally impaired members of the community at the former St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Santingley Lane.
