SUMMER GALA: The Hollies residential home on Eastmoor Road holds a summer gala tomorrow from 2pm. Stalls will include hook-a-duck,bric-a-brac, books, toys, tombolla, raffles, barbecue and refreshments, and much more.

COMMUNION SERVICE: At St Andrew’s on Sunday at 10.15am the Proper 13 communion service will be led by the Rev Dawn Ingham, readings taken from Romans and Matthew will be by John Allott and prayers for the church, community and world will be by Ali Brooks. refreshments will be served following the service.

LITTLE FISHES: The Little Fishes group for toddlers, mums and carers will be closed for the summer. Details of when the group restarts will be announced.

SIMPLY LEISURE: Simply Leisure will be closed for the summer and will reopen on September 12.

COMMUNITY CAFE: At St Andrew’s, the Your Space community café is open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 2pm for light lunches, snacks and homemade cakes. Your Space is also available for parties, funeral teas, etc. Inquire at the café.

TRINITY SERVICE: The preacher at Trinity Methodist Church at 10.45am on Sunday is Paul Hayes. At 6pm friends from Parkside Methodist Church will join for worship and the Rev Alan Wilthew will lead the service.

SPECIAL SERVICE: There will be a special circuit service at Trinity on Sunday, August 7, at 6pm when Mrs Irene Hayes will be recognised as a fully accredited local preacher. John Hayes, who is leaving Wakefield at the end of August to become a full-time probationer minister in Huddersfield will preach the sermon on this special occasion.

EDUCATION: Sign up now for an adult education course at St Swithun’s Community Centre. Courses start in September. These include arts and crafts, computing, English, employment skills, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), fitness, health and social care and maths.
