THORNES HOUSE SCHOOL 1983 REUNION: A reunion for Thornes House School for all those pupils that left in 1983 will be held on Friday, October 7 at Wrenthorpe WMC from 7pm. For more information, e-mail me.

ST CATHERINE’S CHURCH: Services, Sunday, September 18, 9am communion (said), 10.15am communion for all with children’s group. Wednesday, September 21, communion. Do you have an hour or more to spare? YOUNG AT HEART GROUP: Young at Heart Leisure group for all over 55s meets every Thursday at the community centre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Wednesday, September 22 is an informal leisure session.

RE-CONNECT: Re-Connect, a local charity supporting people over 50, have developed a new service, Dial-a-Ride, a door-to-door, not-for-profit transport service. Are you struggling to keep appointments with doctor, optician and hospitals or just need to get out to some shopping? Then this service is for you. For more information telephone 01924 274400.

OAKENSHAW ALLOTMENTS: Oakenshaw Allotments, at the bottom of Montague Street, is holding an autumn fair with fresh produce, cakes, jams, second-hand books, etc for sale to raise funds for the orchard and allotments, on Sunday, September 18 from noon to 4pm, or when everything is sold. There will be a barbecue and teas/coffees.

SUPPORT FOR SUSAN McNICHOLAS : Susan is a friend of mine from my days playing snooker at Wakefield Snooker Centre on Market Street. Susan is has taken up martial arts and is fighting at Balne Lane WMC next Saturday, September 24 against somone from York and I would like to ask all those friends from the good old days to come and cheer Susan on. Tickets are £15 each but if you go in a group of four you only pay for three tickets.
