HOSPICE: The annual Christmas concert of the hospice’s local fundraising group will take place at St Paul’s Church on Saturday, December 3 at 7pm and tickets are now available from the Cross Street shop, the hospice reception or by contacting 01924 364868.

KIRKHAMGATE SCARECROW FESTIVAL: Following the huge success of the Scarecrow Festival in September, grants have now been awarded to Horticare, Kirkhamgate Primary School, Toddlers, Rainbows and Rock Club. Money is also being used to fund a Christmas party for senior citizens of the village. The theme for the 2012 festival is to be adverts. Entry forms for next year will be available shortly from where photographs of entries from the last two years can also be viewed. The committee would like to thank everyone who supported the event.

LINDALE METHODISTS: The service at Lindale Methodist Church on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by the Rev David Hall of Castleford. There will be a village Remembrance service at 2.15pm led by the Rev Tony Jones and the Rev Ruth Harris. There is no evening service at Lindale. The study group will meet next Wednesday at 7.30pm. Next Thursday the Rock Club for young people aged five to 11 will meet at 3.45pm and the Thursday Club will meet at 7.30pm. On Friday to Sunday, December 2 to 4, the church will be holding a Christmas tree festival; more details will be given nearer the time.

ST PAUL’S CHURCH: The Remembrance Sunday parade service begins at 9.30am and the scouts will be assisting during the service which will be led by the Rev Gerry Sykes, who will also be preaching. Afterwards there will be a sale of buns in aid of the east room appeal,

100 YEARS AGO TODAY: A wedding took place at St Paul’s Church on the 11th day of the 11th month, 1911, and the vicar was the Rev Levens.

QUIZ NIGHT: Next Wednesday the guides are hosting a quiz night in St Paul’s School at 7pm when Rebecca Cuthbert and Stephen Holgate will be challenging all who attend. The cost is £2.50 for adults. Everyone is invited to support the event, which is in aid of the St Paul’s roof and east room appeals and if anyone can sell tickets this will be appreciated.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: This will take place in St Paul’s School on Thursday, November 24 at 3pm and all supporters of the school and uniform groups are invited to attend.

KIRKHAMGATE WI: The next meeting of the Kirkhamgate Women’s Institute will take place on Tuesday, November 15 at 7.30pm at Lindale Methodist Church. Sue Dunn will be giving a demonstration on gift wrapping and all ladies are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

BATLEY ROAD PLAYGROUP: The group will be holding its annual Christmas fair on Saturday, November 26 between 2pm and 5pm at the Phoenix Centre. There will be a wide range of stalls, refreshments and fun Christmas arts and crafts for the children. Visit Santa in his grotto and support your local playgroup.

FLANSHAW URC: There will be a coffee morning at Flanshaw United Reformed Church tomorrow between 10.30am and 11.30am. The service on Sunday at 10.45am will be led by Mr John Downs and will include communion. The Wednesday Group will meet on November 16 between 10.30am and noon, and next Thursday there will be a prayer meeting at 11am. The Christmas fair will be held on Saturday, November 19 between 10am and 1pm when there will be various stalls and refreshments.

POPPY CUPCAKES: A resident in Kirkhamgate has been very busy this week making poppy cupcakes which will be on sale at Kirkhamgate Fisheries today and tomorrow. They are £2 each and £1.50 of this will go to the Poppy Appeal.
