FLANSHAW URC: The service at Flanshaw United Reformed Chuch on Sunday at 10.45am will be led by John Wadsworth and will feature carol singing. On Tuesday next there will be a Christmas carol service at Flanshaw Lodge at 2.30pm. There will be no Wednesday Group next week; this will restart in the new year.

WAKEFIELD HOSPICE: The local fundraising group would like to thank everyone who supported the Christmas concert at St Paul’s Church, presented by Wakefield Metropolitan Band and St Paul’s School Choir. The young people performed really well in this, their first appearance at this annual event. The sum of £667 was raised.

LINDALE METHODISTS: The recent Christmas Tree festival raised the magnificent sum of £1,355 for church funds and thanks are expressed to everyone who supported the event. On Sunday there will be a family nativity service at 10.30am and lessons and carols for Christmas at 6pm. Next Thursday Kirkhamgate Family Church holds a Christingle service at 6.30pm.

KIRKHAMGATE WI: The village Women’s Institute will be holding a Christmas party at Lindale Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 20 at 7.30pm.

ST PAUL’S CHURCH: This Sunday the service will be at 11am and will be led by Rev Meuryn Walker and his wife, Marjorie. Anyone who wishes to put a star on the Christmas tree in memory of someone is most welcome to do so. Alternatively you may wish to do this tomorrow morning when the church is open for light refreshments between 10am and noon. A further temporary repair of the roof by sticking felt in place of the stolen lead has been in progress this week in order to prevent water ingress into the church. A security system is now in place to protect future thefts from the roof when there is sufficient funding to carry out a permanent replacement of the lead. The financing of the work is enormous and the church has been well-supported by fundraising but any other financial support will be most welcome. Next Friday the Christingles are being prepared at 10am for the Christingle service at 5pm on Christmas Eve and, at the same time as the Christingles are being prepared, there will be a rehearsal for all the children who are taking part in the tableau at the service.
