BUS PETITION: There is a petition in the post office to help efforts to re-instate the evening bus services in Sharlston.

GOLDEN OLDIE MUSIC: The Villa Club holds a Christmas sing-along on Saturday, December 17 from 8.30pm onwards. Bring your own party food.

CHRISTINGLE SERVICE: On Sunday, December 18 there will be a Christingle service in St Luke’s Church at 4pm. Proceeds will go to the Children’s Society.

SHARLSTON RUGBY: This weekend the first team are away to Morley Borough. The A team are away to Boothtown Halifax. In the club house on Saturday night there will be a male instrumental duo – Jimbo Jovie. The club has arranged a kids’ Christmas party on Boxing Day from 1pm onwards.

SHARLSTON CHILDREN’S CENTRE: A free five-week course entitled healthy families will be held from Monday, January 9 at 1pm-3pm. Topics to include healthy eating, health checks, emotional family issues, quitting smoking, stress, time management, relaxation, lifestyle. Booking is essential. Call the centre to book on 01924 303930. Some free crèche places are available.

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS: It was reported to the parish council that a cover to a large drain along the road to the doctors’ surgery had gone missing. An urgent report was made to the appropriate WMDC department. The response was quick and a temporary cover has been installed. A number of new grit bins have been ordered and are due for delivery soon. The grit has already been delivered to Wildman’s farm. Mr Wildman has offered to store the grit and to fill the grit bins as necessary throughout the village during the bad winter months as needed.

GOSSIP FROM THE POST OFFICE: To satisfy the curiosity of those of you who are too polite to ask – yes I have had a black eye, yes I have had stitches in my eye, yes I have been wearing big sunglasses to hide it. I had an operation on my eye. I am now on the mend and thank you to everyone for their kind wishes.
