The company held an open day yesterday for board members, councillors and people living near to the site .

Newcold Limited UK director Ray Perry said he was “delighted” with how the warehouse was performing.

He said: “We are capable of storing 55,000 pallets of foodstuffs with the expectation that it will grow to 130,000.

“As we develop the site we could create a further 150 jobs, which is fantastic for the area.

“We decided to hold the open day now to show the warehouse fully functioning and we are proud of what we have achieved.”

The company has already hired 20 heavy goods vehicle drivers and 50 warehouse staff. And Mr Perry said they would look to recruit people from the local area when the new jobs were created.
