Conservative leader loses seat to Labour

THE LEADER of the Conservatives has lost his seat.

Mark Crowther was beaten by Labour candidate Celia Loughran for control of Pontefract South.

She polled 2,222 votes, Mr Crowther got 1,617 votes, UKIP candidate Tez Uttley got 446 votes and Lib Dem candidate Dale Douglas winning 122 votes.

Mr Crowther led the Conservative group for the past four years.

After the result was announced he said “it’s a sad day” and the government “have a lot to answer for”.
