An MP has told a construction company to get its act together after residents at a new estate complained of a catalogue of building defects.

Yvette Cooper wrote to Persimmon Homes over claims of sub-standard building work at Magnolia Gardens in Castleford.

She intervened after Persimmon said repairs would be carried out as soon as possible when householders spoke to the Express a month ago.

Flooded gardens, cracked plastering, loose electrical sockets, and walls and doors not hung properly were among the complaints.

Ms Cooper said: Persimmon Homes need to get their act together. People who have worked and saved hard for their new home shouldn’t have to go through hassle and face problems like this.

“I’ve already written to the developer and urged them to sort these problems fast so that local homeowners get the decent homes they paid for.”

Wayne Gradwell, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “The vast majority of interior works have been completed and we are currently in the progress of addressing exterior works.

“It remains our intention to ensure that all necessary works are completed at the earliest possible date and to our customers’ satisfaction.”
