Children at St Mary’s CE Primary School have been exploring the work of the great artists and creating work about seasonal trees.

Each class showcased their amazing work in a well attended art exhibition at the school in Kirkgate.

Parents were invited to attend as were staff from The Hepworth Wakefield gallery.

The school’s chairman of governors Janet Milne and Natasha Bramall, from The Hepworth learning centre team, judged the work and chose winners from each class.

The winners are pictured above showing off their handiwork.

The lower foundation winner was Kayden Kenney, while Khadeejah Gul Shah claimed the prize for the upper foundation class.

Heivin Saeed and Musa Camara were the joint winners for Year 1. Veronika Dziatkiewicz won the Year 2 category and Julia Szmuc claimed the Year 3 prize. In Year 4 Ellie Guy was the winner while Domanic Crummack took the honours for Year 5.

Hafifa Akhtar and Talha Malik were the joint winners in Year 6. The chosen pieces of art are to be sent to the Walker Morris charity calendar competition.
