The event at Ackworth Cricket Club on Sunday, June 21, will be held in memory of Becci Marley, who died from the condition aged 27 in 2009.

Her parents Sue and Paul Marley, who live in the village, and friend Paul Atha have organised the match, which will be held close to the sixth anniversary of Becci’s death.

Mrs Marley will also have her head shaved on the day as funds are raised to help the Cystic Fibrosis Trust carry out research to find new treatments for the incurable condition.

Mrs Marley said: “It’s an opportunity to have a very enjoyable day out whilst raising funds for an extremely worthwhile charity.”

The event will start at 12 noon at the club on Wakefield Road and will include a bouncy castle, rodeo bull, tombola, food and children’s games.

Mrs Marley was awarded an MBE in 2004 and was chosen to be an Olympic torch bearer as part of the preparations for the Olympic Games in 2012.

She said the average life expectancy for people with Cystic Fibrosis was around 40, but many people did not live to that age.

Mrs Marley said: “It’s an awful thing to happen to a family.

“Our main aim is to raise money for research.”
