Yobs poured oil onto an abandoned pony and set her on fire.
The pony was found tied to a tree in Kirkthorpe on Tuesday night.
The young pony was extremely distressed, malnourished and had suffered severe burns.
She is currently being kept in the Ackworth area and is receiving treatment for her injuries.
Steph Broadhead, who rescued the pony, said: “When we found out what had happened we wanted to help.
“As soon as I saw her I knew I couldn’t leave her there. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see her in that state.
“Luckily she’s alive, but she is in a bad way. I just can’t believe anyone would set a defenceless animal on fire and leave it to die.
“But she’s found her forever home now and we won’t be letting her go.”
A Facebook page has been set up to raise funds to help pay for the care she will need.
Mrs Broadhead added: “We’ve called her Hope and she’s had what was left of her hair clipped to make treatment easier and she was good as gold.
“My daughter set up the Facebook page because it’s going to cost a fortune in vet bills.
“Also our aim is to help raise awareness of this horrible case of animal cruelty and hopefully catch the disgusting people who did this. Any help that can be offered would be truly appreciated.”
