A bogus workman who targeted elderly victims before burgling their homes has been jailed for four years.

Leeds Crown Court heard Felix Cunningham, 45, targeted the home of an 81-year-old woman on Park Gate Avenue, Wakefield, on November 12, claiming to be a gardener.

The woman agreed to give him £10 to trim back a tree in her garden. Cunningham then went into her home and stole her purse, which contained £100 in cash and a bank card.

The court heard Cunningham also took £40 from another victim in Wakefield on June 12.

Simon Haring, prosecuting, said Cunningham also stole an elderly man’s wallet from a home in Hemsworth on September 24 after offering to do work in his garden.

Cunningham, of Greenwood Road, Wakefield, pleaded guilty to two offences of burglary and one of fraud by false representation.

Shufquat Khan, mitigating, said Cunningham had pleaded guilty to the offences at an early stage.
