Burglar pretended to be a police officer

A man impersonated a police officer to carry out a burglary.

And police have released this e-fit of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which happened on George Street, in Streethouse.

PC Sayles, of Wakefield CID, said: “The incident occurred just before 1pm on Monday 20 January when the 48-year-old female victim returned home and found the rear door of the property open and an unknown male stood in her kitchen. The man claimed to be a police officer and told the victim she had been burgled.

“A second male suspect then came downstairs and was challenged by the householder before both men left the property on foot.”

The suspect, who said he was a police officer, was 5ft 9ins tall and of medium build.

He had short mousey coloured hair.

He was wearing navy blue coloured work trousers, a black hooded top and spoke with a local accent.

The second suspect was about the same size but slimmer and was in his mid to late 20s.

He had also had mousey coloured hair and was a wearing a khaki coloured jumper and carrying a black cloth type bag.

PC Sayles said:”Impersonating a police officer while carrying out a burglary is a despicable thing to do and we need to identify and bring these men to justice.”

A 22-year-old man from Castleford has been arrested in connection with the investigation and released on police bail.
