City centre assault leaves man with serious head injury

A violent attack in Wakefield city centre left a man with a serious head injury.

Police are investigating the report of th assault outside the Elephant & Castle pub on Westgate, which happened in the early hours of Monday morning, August 31.

At around 12.03am, the victim, a man in his 50s, was punched and sustained a serious head injury. He remains in hospital.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The area was cordoned off for several hours.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information to come forward.
