Firearms, ammunition and Class A drugs seized in police operation in Wakefield and Castleford

Suspected Class A drugs, firearms, ammunition and a knife were seized by officers after a series of operations yesterday (Monday).

A pistol and ammunition were found in a Skoda stopped on Cannon Street in Castleford and a knife found in a Golf stopped on Chantry Bridge, Wakefield.

Two men aged 35 and 23 were arrested from the Skoda on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Two men aged 43 and 29 were arrested from the Golf on suspicion of possession of a firearm and an offensive weapon.

A subsequent operation took place at a house on Bradford Road, Morley where a handgun and ammunition were found.

Suspected class a drugs were also found at the property.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

Later that same day, a sixth man aged 20 was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Walker said: “Our enquiries into these seizures remain ongoing and the six men remain in police custody.

“Illegal firearms and drugs can cause considerable harm and concern in the communities of West Yorkshire and beyond - through Programme Precision we are working together with key partners to bring those responsible for serious and organised crime to justice.”
